SP3H achieved a major technological breakthrough between 2005 and 2011 by transferring a large scale sensing technology, initially used in the refinery sector, into a rugged and robust miniaturized sensor, which is now cost-effective and adaptable to other markets.

We developed smart optical sensor solutions using Near-Infrared technology to identify the molecular structure of any liquid fuels. SP3H’s key approach is to “profile” the fuel in order to analyze and determine its quality – and can do that on a continuous, real-time, basis.

Technology

The SP3H solution uses the NIR technology, which is already used in few sectors but with heavy engines. The company developed a NIR-based sensor small, robust, and accurate enough to be installed on-board any vehicles.

From its near-infrared spectrum, the miniaturized optical sensor enables mapping of information within seconds, obtained on the thousands of molecules that make up the fuel, in a robust and universal manner; thus acting as a veritable fuel DNA fingerprint. This approach is valid for all types of fuels and biofuels, whatever the country and fuel supply, and thus enables the information to be rendered relevant and usable under all circumstances.

Who we are

SP3H is a green technology company which proposes solution to face the eco-mobility challenge. The SP3H team has an accumulated 80 years of experience in five main domains. It is this special group that kindled and enabled our solution from concept to product. Unique know-how has been built up over time. Our team of 15 key passionate individuals, including four Doctors of Sciences, pioneers of near-infrared technology, and experts in optoelectronics, signal processing and combustion engines, represents the creative strength of SP3H. The company launched I-Fusion, the first "fuel smart" vehicle, for a 50,000 km European road trip with the embedded sensor. I-Fusion is the tangible result of 10 years of Research & Development.

What we do

SP3H developed a fuel quality sensor that can provide fuel molecular structure data to the engine control unit in order to achieve engine settings adaptation, delivering a 5% reduction in CO2 emissions and up to 20% reduction in other pollutant emissions (NOx and fine particles). This breakthrough technology offers a part of the solution to energy efficiency and eco-mobility – allowing engines to attain better combustion efficiencies from the fuel that they use by adjusting settings according to fuel quality data derived by our sensor. While a transition to zero emission power and transport propulsion technologies is an ultimate objective, the SP3H sensor technology is ready to use now and for the foreseeable future to help reduce our carbon footprint.
